Threshold State
Threshold State (臨場) names the condition after a Glimpse and before Attunement — you have already seen the full shape of the Field, but you do not yet dwell inside it.
Field definition
Allowing yourself to stay on the threshold, without mistaking staying for arriving.
Threshold State is a state, not an event — it can persist. You can accurately describe the Field's structure, but the describer has not yet become part of the structure. You have direction (you want to light the lamp), but you have not yet found the lamp. You are not "outside" and not "inside" — you are on the threshold.
The dark room after lightning
Lightning has flashed through a dark room. You know where the walls are, where the beams are, where the door is. You no longer stumble.
But the light is not on.
You reach out your hand and begin searching for the switch in the dark.
Differences from adjacent concepts
| Adjacent concept | Difference |
|---|---|
| Being outside | Being outside means not knowing what the inside looks like; Threshold State means knowing but not yet living in it. |
| Attunement | Attunement is already being inside the Field, frequencies aligned; Threshold State is understanding the frequency from the edge. |
| Expertise | Expertise means being able to do the thing; Threshold State means understanding but not yet dwelling in it. |
Why it matters
Threshold State matters because it names a legitimate position — one that most frameworks either ignore or rush past. The pressure to "get in or stay out" erases the threshold as a place worth inhabiting. But the protocol recognises that some of the clearest seeing happens from the doorway: you can describe the room with precision precisely because you are not yet furnishing it with your presence.
